My Screenplays

I have been writing off and on for about five years. As with many of my hobbies I will focus on it for a couple months at a time then move to something else. I love writing and would definitely make it a career if I can make a breakthrough in the industry.  The first draft of last screenplay I wrote, Soul Collector's Club, was finished in under a month while the first one I completed State of The Union took over three years. Here's some info on a couple that I have finished. There are many more in the works.

Both are registered with The Writers Guild of America, a good source for information on the industry.

STATE OF THE UNION
SOUL COLLECTOR'S CLUB
This project started with a high school term paper I did on nuclear terrorism which turned into an action thriller. It is based on an idea in the book The Curve of Binding Energy by John McPhee that the State of the Union Address would be an ideal target for a nuclear terrorist attack. And, on the fact that given a source of uranium or plutonium a bomb can be constructed from readily available materials.

It has a mean bad guy, international incidents, plenty of bombs and bullets, a love affair, a  chase, and of course the good guys win, and stop the terrorist in the end.

I know, it would have been more timely if I'd written it twenty years ago, but it's a good first effort, and I have some new twists on the nuclear thing that I could use in a re-write.

Soul is a supernatural thriller, sort of a Friends meets Satan. A seemingly harmless game derived from one of those late night outings where the debate between friends turns to religion and things get heavy and feelings hurt. And then comes the dare.  Satan is of course deliciously evil.

One thing my first effort taught me, along with a few panels at The Austin Film Festival was that big action pictures are not the way to get a start in the industry and few people can sell a big spec script right out of the blocks. So, I wrote this to be filmed in Austin on using local sets, scenes and talent, and a reasonable budget.

So, I'm planning on going the Indie route when I get a break in my current business development project. Most likely we'll shoot in DV and operate on a shoestring whenever I get a chance.
